A Winter Run to Aberdovey

253 km4h 20m on the road

A winter Saturday, one Honda Africa Twin, and a proper loop of mid-Wales: out from Pontesbury, up over the Berwyns to Bala, down to the Cambrian coast, and lunch in Aberdovey before the long way home through Welshpool — about 157 miles of it. Tap a thumbnail to ride along.

A winter Saturday, 2024

Pontesbury → Aberdovey → home

~253 km · 4h 20m

West out of Pontesbury on the A488, up the B-roads through Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and over the B4391 to Bala, then down to the Cambrian coast — Arthog, Tywyn — and into Aberdovey for lunch on the estuary. Home the southern way: Machynlleth, Llanfair Caereinion, Welshpool, and back to Pontesbury. Coast, hills and empty B-roads the whole way — the kind of day the bike's made for.
