Shrewsbury Loop for a Homelab Switch
Pontesbury · A488 ‘To clear my cache’
Graham rides from Pontesbury to Shrewsbury and back on the Honda CB1000GT
The Route
Pontesbury – Shrewsbury – Pontesbury
A488, A5, A5112
19 miles (31.3 km)
~25m riding
I left Pontesbury for what I called a quick run, mostly to clear my cache. The A488 out to Plealey is a straight line that tests whether your elbows are actually on the tank, or just pretending to be.
Hook-a-Gate offers a view that makes you feel like you are trespassing on a landscape painting. I rode the A5 up to Bayston Hill, a climb that reminds you the CB1000GT has plenty of grunt, even if my heart rate has its own opinions on the matter.
Shrewsbury was the only stop, purely to pick up that 2.5G switch. It is a town where the roads twist just enough to keep you from daydreaming. I swung past Atcham, where the A5112 runs long and flat, perfect for letting the bike settle into its rhythm.
