A Spring Saturday and a Hundred Bikes
124 kma spring afternoon on the road
A bright spring Saturday and seemingly every biker in Wales had the same plan β the camera clocked the better part of a hundred oncoming bikes coming the other way. The Honda CRF300L out for a mixed loop of mid-Wales: fast tarmac, quiet green-lane byways, and roads hugging the rivers, about 77 miles out one way and home another. No GPS on this one, so the map's reconstructed from the footage. Tap a thumbnail to ride along.
A spring Saturday, March 2023
Shropshire β mid-Wales loop β home
West into the hills under a proper blue sky, and within minutes it was clear what kind of day it was: bikes everywhere, nods and waves the whole way out β the best of the biking season waking up. A few overtakes where the road ran straight, then off the tarmac onto a green-lane byway β wet, rutted, exactly the 300's territory β and lanes running right alongside the rivers (the ARAF on the road confirming we were well into Wales).
Stone villages, an old bridge or two, valleys just greening up, and the long way home. One of those days the little Honda lives for.
No GPS logged this one, so the exact roads (and the off-road spur) are inferred from what's on camera β if you know these lanes and I've drawn it wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.
