The Longest-Day Loop

136 kma long summer day on the road

Near enough the longest day of the year, wall-to-wall sun, and a full day's loop into mid-Wales on the Honda CRF300L — about 85 miles, out one way and home another. This one was all about the flow: a stack of overtakes where the roads opened up, the usual summer swarm of oncoming bikes, and village after sunlit village in between. No GPS, so the map's reconstructed from the footage. Tap a thumbnail to ride along.

A summer day, June 2023

Shropshire → mid-Wales loop → home

~136 km · a long summer day

Out early into a perfect midsummer morning and straight into a rhythm — long sweeping roads, clear sightlines, and overtake after overtake as the slower traffic came and went. Through a string of stone villages and market squares, past green hills and full-leaf hedgerows, with bikes coming the other way all day long.

A break in the middle, then the long afternoon run home, the light staying high right into the evening. The kind of long, easy, sun-drenched day the whole riding year is really for.

No GPS logged this one, so the exact roads are inferred from what's on camera — if you know these lanes and I've drawn it wrong, tell me and I'll fix the line.
